Paint the Ceiling to Feel the Charm

Paint the Ceiling to Feel the CharmA good painting will make your home look attractive an appealing. Just try to add little color that will make the entire look of the room.
A good painting can really change the atmosphere in your home. Believe me; painting the ceilings has got a role in deciding the looks. The painting above your head on ceiling will create an impact on the feelings. Just the change in colors will have its own impact. A light peach on the ceiling will brighten a room with a warm rosy hue much more than a cold white.

Paint is capable of changing the appearance of height of a ceiling. If feels like bringing the ceiling down, just give the walls dark color and ceiling white. Blurring that line of demarcation between the walls and the ceiling will definitely make an effect of a high ceiling, as the eyes won’t be able to tell where the boundary exists between the wall and the ceiling.

Have you made up your mind on getting the ceiling painted? The next step is determining the type of paint to be used. There exist two types of paints-ceiling paint and wall paint. Ceiling paint is cheaper. But never calculate the savings that you are going to make by painting your walls with ceiling paint. This is because the ceiling paint will be missing some of the expensive ingredients which will resist the smudge marks. If you use this paint, cleaning also becomes a hard task. Ceiling paint is also chalkier than wall paint which may get damaged easily. Ceiling paint is flat paint that will not show imperfections as easily as glossier wall paint. Ceiling paint is also a thicker paint that will reduce splatter if applied.

Ceiling paint is exclusively for use on the ceiling. But wall paint can be used anywhere. This paint works perfect on ceilings as it is easier to tint than ceiling paint. This helps in getting the exact color of your dream. Now just get ready to paint your ceiling and feel the difference.

How to scratch paint off the wood easily?

How to scratch paint off the wood easily?Stripping paint is very mind-numbing and time consuming. If you want to make the task interesting and easier, you need to follow these tips. Read on.
First of all, get yourself equipped with all the supplies. Get a chemical paint stripper, protective gear for you including rubber gloves, goggles, long sleeves and pants. Do not forget to spread newspaper or strips of plastics on adjacent areas to avoid any spillover.

If you are using an old paint brush, apply coat of stripper compound and then leave until the paint softens. Next, with the help of paint stripper knife or shave hook tool, scratch the paint off gently. If you have removed all the paint, clean the wood using paint thinner. If you don’t have paint thinner, cold water will serve the purpose.

You can also use an electric paint stripper to strip the paint. This is better than the old paint brush because it is a very handy tool. When the element in the tool gets heated up, hold it at a certain distance from the paint to soften it up. This tool is very useful to strip off stubborn paint.

Another good option is the kerosene blow torch. You should take enough precautions while using this tool because the material is highly inflammable. When you hold the torch to burn the paint chips, ensure that you don’t hold the torch at one place for a longer time. You should keep it moving. Apply the heat by moving the flame across the paint until it blisters and softens in a small area. Then remove the flame. Scrape away the soften paint using stripper knife or shave hook.

This way, make the stripping task easier and interesting!

Paint vis-à-vis wallpaper

Paint vis-à-vis wallpaperWhen it comes to beautifying the walls, deciding between wallpaper and paint can be very tricky because each has its advantages and disadvantages. So here is a list of the pros and cons of paint and wallpaper which will hopefully reduce a whole lot of confusion in the choice. Read on and decide whether you want to paint the walls of or apply the wallpaper themes.

Advantages of wallpaper:
There are hundreds and thousands of wallpaper patterns, textures and colors to choose from. The wallpaper patterns range from florals (widely used), geometric shapes and even landscapes. You can decide different themes to each room in your home. Textured wallpapers add liveliness to the walls which is not provided by the paints.

Wallpapers are perhaps the artistic ways to decorate the walls. They have the ability to hide the imperfections in your walls. Wallpapers are convenient to use and cheap as compared to paints. You can make a surface look like wood, bricks, metal or straw simply with wallpaper.

Disadvantages of wallpaper:
Keeping the dirt off your wallpaper is a daunting task. Wallpapers get easily stained and those that are stain proof are costlier. If the wallpaper is exposed to sunlight, over time, your wallpaper will fade and ultimately loose all its colors. You should be very careful in selecting the place for the wallpaper. So if your room has a wide veranda, large windows or a balcony, better paint the area rather than using wallpaper.

Advantages of paint:
Paint requires low maintenance as compared to wallpaper. Paints can last for many years as compared to wallpapers. Moreover, the color of the paint will not fade as quickly as the color of a wallpaper fades. Once you have painted your walls, you need not to be so worried about maintaining and cleaning your walls. Stains can be easily removed off the wall if it is painted or else you can re-paint the stained area with the same color. On the other hand, the entire panel of wallpaper requires to be replaced if only a small part of the wall is stained.

Disadvantages of paint:
Wallpaper offer you wide range of colors and patterns which is not found much in paint. Wallpapers can create illusions instantly which the paint cannot. The designs illustrated in wallpaper can be flawless. However, the paint designs would not be as detailed and flawless as those in wallpapers.

Now that you know the limitations and advantages of both wallpapers and paints, it is up to you how you want to decorate your walls.

How to keep your windows new for a long time

How to keep your windows new for a long timeWindows at your home are multi purpose. They control the amount of light entering your rooms; give you privacy and also act as elements of home décor. So, it is very important to maintain them so that they can serve you with their purposes for a long time.
If the frames of the windows are wooden, then there are fair chances to get rotten when they are exposed to dampness. When you look at your old windows, you will notice that the frames develop cracks over time on mere exposure to sunlight. You may daily remove the dust accumulated in the windows. But do you know that even blowing the dust wears away the finish of your windows? When the double-hung windows go bad over time, you may find it extremely difficult even to open them.

Hence, it is better to repaint the wooden frames of the windows once in every three to five years to make them withstand the changing weather conditions. When you paint the windows, make sure that you don’t paint its moving parts because it will jam its movement and it will be impossible to open the windows.

The windows need yearly maintenance. To protect your windows for a long time, fill the cracks with putty annually.

Use screwdrivers and take out the rotten parts of the wooden frame. Then fill the holes with putty. If the holes are deeper, build layers of the putty. This should be followed by soaking them with a good wood preservative. Allow to dry for a while. Apply primer, smoothen the window frame with sand paper and then apply the paint.

This way, you can prevent your wooden windows from getting bad quickly and help them withstand the changing weather for a longer time.
