Comments Handling Rodent Damages at Your Place
We all know that rodents and pests are very destructive. In this article, we focus on the types of damages caused by rodents and pests and the ways to repair these damages. Read on.
Chewed electrical wires
Chewed electrical wires are very dangerous that can even set fires. According to some statistics, the rodents nibbling the electric wires were sited as the cause for around one-fifth of “fires of unknown origin”.
Gnawing of wires and cables by rodents has also been sited as the root cause for short-circuiting and the breakdown of telephone systems. The cost of repair or replacement of the damage is very high.
Holes
The holes can be sealed up using metal flashing. The hole can also be covered using a sealant by mixing a quick drying patching plaster.
If rodents have made larger holes, use a woven type of metal hardware cloth measuring one-fourth of an inch. Next, cover the top of the hole with metal cloth and fill the hole with a foam sealant.
Stained surfaces:
The naughty mice and rats often urinate leaving behind a foul smell and staining the surface where they urinated. You should wear rubber or plastic gloves when you clean up rat urine. Cover your nose and mouth with a dust mask. The urine may contain airborne contaminants. Hence, avoid touching the urine with any part of your body. Use a disinfectant or a mixture of bleach and water to clean the rat’s mess. Spray the disinfectant or the mixture in the stained surface and allow it to soak for five minutes. Next, wipe the stained area using paper towels. Mop the area over with disinfectant. Don’t forget to clean your gloves with disinfectant after the cleaning process.
Damage caused to insulation piping:
A small rodent can cause big damage to the entire heating system of your home. If you find that a rodent has gnawed its way through the air duct or insulation pipe, immediately disable the entire heating system. This is to avoid rodent urine or faces from circulating in the air because these are very sickening.
The best way to prevent rodents from entering your wiring and heating system is to make them impenetrable. Follow all these tips to ensure your household free from rodents.
