Maintaining hygiene at home

The dirtiest places in your home could be the least obvious ones. If the areas of your home are dirty they may consist of harmful organisms with their deadly toxins that can cause major illness, damage to the gastrointestinal tract, circulatory and respiratory systems.
Cockroaches and mosquitoes are the most unwanted intruders in the home. They carry large number of disease causing organisms such as diarrhea, food poisoning etc.Mosquitoes are carriers of disease like malaria, dengue, yellow fever, brain fever etc
How to tackle this menace??
• Eliminate hiding places: Seal cracks and crevices in dark and moist areas
• Do not let stagnant water accumulate around or inside your house
• Do not store unnecessary newspapers, boxes, rags that provide hiding places
• Use non-toxic mosquito-repellents
• Do not allow food particles to accumulate in areas accessible to cockroaches and mosquitoes
• Screen your windows and doors
• Get the gutters and drainage systems around your house cleaned
• If you have a pool in your garden, put some fishes there that thrive on mosquito larvae • Wipe out the sink and the toilet seat and rim
• Let lots of sunshine enter your house during the day ,it clears humidity
• Wipe down the sink after doing the dishes or loading the dishwasher
Precautions to be taken to avoid infection
• Commonly touched surfaces should be regularly disinfected
• Wash your hands with soap and water, scrub underneath your nails and dry thoroughly with a paper or dry towel.Wash hands frequently especially after going to the toilet, before and after preparing food after touching pets
• To avoid food –borne diseases cook and store food at proper temperature
• Disinfect highly –suspect germ infested areas in your home regularly with non-antibiotic soaps.
• Put waste in waste basket and clean the areas near it and the wash basin and toilet seat regularly
• Pick up crumbs and dust bunnies with a handheld vacuum
• Kitchen surfaces should also be cleaned and disinfected before preparing food and immediately after they have been in contact with raw foods such as meat and poultry to reduce cross contamination.
• Be sure to close the toilet lid before you flush the toilet to prevent microbes inside the bowl from splashing on to you
It is important to keep yourself looking clean outwardly as well inwardly by practicing a healthy lifestyle. Reducing germ infested areas in your home should be your topmost priority.
