How to soundproof your home?
![]() |
Soundproofing is very essential for your home because it is the insulation against the external noise. You can get a relaxing atmosphere by sound proofing your rooms. Soundproofing can be either done by reducing the noise or absorbing the noise. If you want to reduce the noise, you should introduce a distance between the noise and the listener. On the other hand, if you want the sound to be absorbed, you should transform the sound wave, suppress the damping materials and thus absorb sound.
One of the best ways to reduce the noise includes the use of damping materials which absorb sound waves and also limit the production of audible noise. By using damping materials, the sound wave hits the damping materials before falling on the listener’s eardrums.
Some of the widely used damping materials include lead which is very effective in converting the sound waves into heat over time and distance. However, it is a bit expensive damping material.
Another damping material is neoprene, which is not as effective as lead, but surely absorbs the low frequency sounds.
The most common damping material is foam. The porous nature of foam allows the sound waves to travel not as much as they travel in open air. However, foams do not absorb the sound completely. If you want to resist moisture, go for polystyrene foam which resist the moisture and is good sound absorber.
These were some of the widely used sound proofing techniques that have positive results. Hence, it is recommended that you install a soundproofing system in your home as well.
