Fixing a Broken Window
![]() |
Fixing a broken window pane is no more a daunting task. All you need to do is make some quick purchases and follow these simple steps. At the end of the task, you will wonder if the window had really undergone any replacement at all! Read on.
Drive down to a hardware store to buy a replacement cord. Use a plaited type cord made of plastic. Make sure that the cord is rot proof. Now, start the work of replacing the broken window.
Use a stop beading that holds the inner sash of the window in position. Now, raise it off with a screwdriver close to the nails. When the cord is intact on the inner sash, cut it and lower the weight. Next, lift out the sash from the window frame. In order to remove the upper sash of the window, raise off the parting beading slotted into the window frame.
The next thing to do is remove the broken window from its frame. Pull out both the sections of the broken window. Once the broken window has been completely removed, pluck out the nails holding the remains of the sash cords to the cord channels and then lever out the small covers. Remove any remaining cord.
The new cord should be fed over the pulley and down to the bottom of the weight channel. You may find that the pulley is not revolving freely. To ensure smooth movement of the pulley, you need to lubricate it with a drop of oil. If paint is blocking the movement of pulley, scrape it away. If all the four cords of the broken window have been replaced, fit back the window into its frame.
This way, you can replace a broken window without wasting much time.
