Energy saving tips - refrigerator

Refrigerator is the heaviest electricity user next to air conditioners. The common problems of refrigerators becoming noisy, frosty, hard to clean, overusing electricity are now solved new refrigerators in today’s market. The refrigerators are now more efficient. However, no matter how much your refrigerator is efficient, saving energy is always appreciable. Here is few energy saving tips you should follow while using your refrigerator.
The position: Placing your refrigerator in direct sunlight, humid, dry or other heat sources. But or next to an oven or other heat source can increase energy consumption substantially. Hence, choose a cooler area to place your fridge. While choosing the location for your fridge, make sure that there is plenty of air flow. Restricting ventilation could add 15% or more to the energy bill. Hence, avoid placing your fridge in cupboards that have zero ventilation. Leave some space for the refrigerator. There should be at least 10cm between both sides of the refrigerator and wall, at least 10 cm between the rear of the refrigerator and the wall and at least 30cm between the top of the refrigerator and the above surface.
The temperature: Maintain the temperature of the freezer as 0 degrees F and raise the temperature of the refrigerator to 38 degrees F.
The doors: The doors of your fridge should be kept closed. Frequent closing and opening of the doors of refrigerator and freezer allows the cold air to escape the system and it is then replaced by warm air that requires cooling all over again. Caution: “Don’t stand with the refrigerator door open”!
The arrangement of food stuff: Your freezer can be stuffed with food but, don’t keep the refrigerator overflowed with food. This is because if you overload your refrigerator, this will cause the air circulation to become less efficient.
The cooling coils: Keep the cooling coils free of dust.
Turn off the fridge when away: This is an important tip. People usually forget to turn their fridge off when they are away for long vacations. This leads to wastage of energy. When going out, empty and clean the refrigerator and then turn off.
This way you can save a lot of dollars in your wallet by saving electricity.
