There are many ways to save electricity and thus your hard earned money. You can also save energy by washing your clothes! Yes! By the proper utilization of your laundry, you can actually save a lot of energy that is wasted while washing clothes. Here is few energy saving tips for your laundry. Laundry time: The ideal time for washing your clothes which can save a lot of energy is early morning or night. Waking up early to wash clothes? Well, it sounds odd but hey, if you can save your hard earned money, then what is the big deal? Trudge into your laundry room early in the morning and start your laundry session.

Water: Use warm or cold water when possible and always rinse with cold water. This is because most of the energy in a washing machine is used to heat the water.

Temperature: If you have presoaked your heavily stained clothes, the wash temperature should be cooler. Set the washing machine on cold water while rinsing the clothes. Most of the energy in a washing machine is used to heat the water.

Detergent: Experimenting with detergent is a good idea. Find out the detergent that works well with cooler water. Don’t use more detergent than you need because you may require extra rinsing.

Capacity: Check your machine’s loading capacity and make sure that you neither under- load nor over load your machine. Both under loading and over loading of your machine will make it costly to operate.

Washing: If you are washing lightly stained clothes, use the suds-saving feature if it’s available on your washing machine. This saves the water to be reused in the next load. On the other hand, pre soak the heavily stained clothes and wash them in cooler temperature.

Drying: Dry the similar types of clothes together. For example, your lightweight synthetics will dry much more quickly than bath towels and natural fiber clothes. Make sure that you don’t over-dry your clothes. If you take out the slightly damp clothes, you can reduce the need of ironing hard.
