One way to save a lot of energy is by the proper usage of iron box in your home, which consumes a whole lot of electricity. Here is few tips on how to save energy while ironing. Your clothing: Start your energy saving task right from the purchase of your clothes itself. When you are purchasing the clothes, it is better to opt for “no iron” types. This way, you need not press them each time you wear them because they are made with materials that will eliminated the need to iron them most of the time.

Storage of clothes: You can prevent wrinkles and thus ironing by storing your clothes properly. Don’t stuff your clothes into your wardrobe. Hang your clothes in the designated places. This way, you will avoid clutter in your closet and the wrinkles which occur due to improper storage of your clothes. Moreover, do not dump your clothes waiting to be pressed in the ironing basket because this leads to more creases and wrinkles and thus, more ironing time.

The ironing session: Wipe the face of your iron box before ironing. A clean and smooth surface will ensure better ironing. Never overheat your iron. A small mistake while handling the over heated iron will lead to scorching the delicate material of your clothes and more importantly, wastage of money.

When you are ironing, try to iron a large amount at one time. Separate the ironing into like materials. Begin by ironing light, low temperature fabrics first and then shift to the heavier material clothing. This will reduce warm-up time and the iron will always be at the correct temperature for the material.

When you are ironing the linens, make sure that they are slightly damp rather than fully dry.

Using spray starch on your clothes when ironing is also a good idea. This will make your clothes feel crisp and shed the time needed to iron them.

Last but not the least don’t forget to turn off your iron when not in use. Turn your iron off if you are interrupted whilst ironing.
