It would be better if the installing of wood flooring is considered first and then finishing the wood when it is installed. Here you may need to sand down the floor, apply stain and then a layer of urethane to protect the floor. After every coat you may need to sand the floor which will take a span of at least two days. If so particular about the protection, more coats of urethane can be applied.

The wooden floor can be moped occasionally, in case of getting dirty. But take care not to use lot of water as it may damage the wooden floor.
