So you have tried so many tricks to get the smooth flawless finish on your wooden furniture, but didn’t achieve it. You need not worry we have the tips for you which will help you to get the professional finish on your furniture. Here is how.
To carry out the staining process you should know that there are two most common types of stain for wood trim. These are wiping stains and penetrating stains. Wiping stains are highly pigmented while the penetrating stains have better clarity and transparency.
After the staining process it is the time to apply seal coat. Apply the seal coat, wait till it dries and then recoat with varnish.
When it comes to choosing the right varnish, the conventional oil based varnish is preferable because it has better adhesion than most polyurethanes. Apply two to three coal of varnish and keep it smooth by sanding between the coats with 220 grit sandpaper.
After drying the last coat of varnish, use a 320 grit sandpaper to knock off the bigger numbs. You should always sand in the direction of the wood grain. Next, rub out the finish thoroughly with steel wool and then vacuum the surface or clean the surface with a soft cotton rag.
To give it the final touch to the surface use a paste wax to conclude the task. Dip a synthetic pad into the wax and apply it to the surface in the direction of the wood grain. Allow the wax to dry and buff out with a clean, soft cotton rag. Repeat the wax application and buffing out a second time and you should have a very smooth, slick low luster finish.
