Guidance for living room lighting

Guidance for living room lightingLiving room is a place full of activities. Good lighting can pronounce each and every activity happening in your living room. Here is how to arrange the lighting fixtures in your living room.
General lighting: General Lighting provides an area with overall illumination. General lighting radiates a comfortable level of brightness, enabling one to see and walk about safely. It can be accomplished with chandeliers, ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures, and with lanterns outside your home. You may require general lighting for entertaining and watching television. The electronics such as TV, video games and computers require low-level general lighting to reduce the glare as you watch the television or play video game.

Miniature track lighting is also good options which provide both general and accent lighting. Install them under the shelves to bring about the effect. Choose from accent spots, mini-lights, and compact or linear fluorescent light sources.

Task lighting: Task lighting fixtures are used to perform specific tasks such as reading, sewing, homework, hobbies, games, or balancing your checkbook. Place portable lamps such as floor lamp either at the right or the left of the reading chair of your living room. Make sure that the task lighting fixture is free of distracting glare and shadows and should be bright enough to prevent eyestrain.

Game tables require bright, even overhead lighting. Shaded pendants equipped with either incandescent bulbs or energy-efficient compact fluorescent tubes are one solution. Or, install two recessed down lights over each half of the table.

Down lights: Highlight the fireplace in your living room with recessed down lights installed in the ceiling over the mantle. Place wall sconces in each side of the fireplace which is really attractive. This draws attention to the fireplace area.

Picture lights: Highlight the wall paintings with low-voltage, highlighted with low-voltage, tungsten-halogen picture lights. These are best to enhance the look of your wall painting because these frame-mounted lights spread a beam of bright, white light across the face of the painting.

Grouping:
Focus around a central point, say a fireplace or a large window, and start grouping your furniture. Take the size of your space into consideration. Make your living room lively!

Lively RoomLight your living room in a way that exudes life, good health and should be welcoming. Here how you can do that:
Mix lighting: Avoid using one central light which will create hard shadows and glare. Distribute light uniformly throughout the space by combining florescent with halogen lights.

Show off your precious decorative items with spotlighting:
Your living room treasures- wall painting, pottery or sculpture- will be pronounced by spotlighting.

Entertainment without strain:
Watching television in a darkened room will strain your eyes. Backlight your TV set by placing a lamp behind the screen to soften the contrast and reduce glare.

Read clear:
A floor lamp with a bulb shielded from the eyes and with adjustable shades will provide the best light for reading. This casts a direct beam of light to the exact spot you need it.

Pacify:
When you want to relax, switch on the table lamps in side tables, shelves and consoles instead of general lights.

Control artificial light:
To suit the mood and a range of activities in your living room, control the artificial light.

Make your living room cozy

Living RoomPeople have their own ideas of creating an effect of coziness in their living rooms. But, when it comes to putting those ideas into action, you often get confused where to start with. One way to kick start the task is arranging the furniture in your living room.
Read on:
Arrange the furniture: Make your living room useful for several activities by grouping the furniture into different zones. For instance, group furniture around a fireplace to create a conversation area. Place a sofa near a television to create the space for entertainment. For reading space, place a comfortable chair and a floor lamp in a corner of the room.

Define the zones: Since you have to use the room for several activities, define each zone by using rugs under different furniture pieces. Rugs also warm up the room that has tile floors.

Warm up with dark colors: To accomplish the cozy look in your living room, paint the room with warm colors such as dark brown, darker shades of blue or green.

Add life to the room by indoor plants: Live plants are more effective in creating the cozier look to the living room as compared to artificial plants.

Living room is a part of your home where the visitors hang around to the maximum. Make it more welcoming; people would definitely increase their visit!

Make your living room glamorous!

Living RoomWhat if an unexpected visitor waiting to be invited inside finds your home a total mess? Where do you expect him to sit when papers and sweat pants are all around your living room? Make your house into home so that your guest will not run away! Start with your living room. Make it glamorous so that your guest finds you hospitable.

1- Why are the little things scattered all over your living room? Magazines, newspapers, books, your work bag, your shoes and smelly socks, milk carton on the table, dinner plate that is still not washed, unclean ash tray- what are they doing in this part of your house? Some things should be left in your bed room like your work bag, shoes and socks. Throw the used milk carton into the garbage can. Dump the unwashed plate into the kitchen sink, empty the ash tray.

2- Arrange the seat covers of your sofa, remove wilted flowers from the vase and replace them with fresh ones. Clean your furniture with duster. Occasional dusting will help prevent piling up of dust particles. Remove old magazines and newspapers.

3- Do you have areas in your living room that are neither too small nor too spacious? Utilize the area into something it could be perfect for.

Having guests will be more pleasant if your living room is neat and cozy. So, tidy up everything because you never know when you have to welcome people!
