Comments Energy saving tips- lighting
One of the easiest ways to save a lot of money is enhancing the lighting efficiency of your home. Prevent paying heavy electricity bills by altering the lighting arrangements in the exteriors and interiors of your home. Here are a few tips on how to save energy by effective lighting.
Outdoor lighting: Turn off the outdoor lights during the day. Many of us forget to switch off the exterior lights. So, connect a timer to the outdoor lights so that they will turn off automatically in daylight. Turn off the decorative gas lamps when not in use. Compact fluorescent bulbs are the best option for exterior lighting as they are long-lasting as well as save a lot of energy. Outdoor halogen lighting is great for gardens and pathways, and it uses much less energy than standard incandescent lights.
Indoor Lighting: When it comes to economical and effective lighting, compact fluorescent light bulbs are a bright idea. Use 4-foot fluorescent fixtures with reflective backing and electronic ballasts in your workroom, laundry and garage. The lighting levels should be adjusted as per your needs with three-way lamps.
Natural lighting is a great way to save energy. Let the natural light flow into your rooms without interruption remove secondary glazing on the window since they absorb light. You should also replace heavy curtains with blinds, window shutters or light drapes. This will ensure reduced use of artificial lighting fixtures.
If artificial lighting is unavoidable, make sure that you don’t light an entire room when task lighting serves the purpose. Replace burned out lamps with lower wattage lamps or energy-saving lamps wherever possible. Don’t forget to turn off the lights when you are not in a room.
By switching over to effective and energy saving lighting fixtures such as energy saving fluorescent lamps, you can avoid paying hefty electricity bills.
