Energy saving tips- lighting

Energy saving tips- lightingOne of the easiest ways to save a lot of money is enhancing the lighting efficiency of your home. Prevent paying heavy electricity bills by altering the lighting arrangements in the exteriors and interiors of your home. Here are a few tips on how to save energy by effective lighting.

Outdoor lighting: Turn off the outdoor lights during the day. Many of us forget to switch off the exterior lights. So, connect a timer to the outdoor lights so that they will turn off automatically in daylight. Turn off the decorative gas lamps when not in use. Compact fluorescent bulbs are the best option for exterior lighting as they are long-lasting as well as save a lot of energy. Outdoor halogen lighting is great for gardens and pathways, and it uses much less energy than standard incandescent lights.

Indoor Lighting: When it comes to economical and effective lighting, compact fluorescent light bulbs are a bright idea. Use 4-foot fluorescent fixtures with reflective backing and electronic ballasts in your workroom, laundry and garage. The lighting levels should be adjusted as per your needs with three-way lamps.

Natural lighting is a great way to save energy. Let the natural light flow into your rooms without interruption remove secondary glazing on the window since they absorb light. You should also replace heavy curtains with blinds, window shutters or light drapes. This will ensure reduced use of artificial lighting fixtures.

If artificial lighting is unavoidable, make sure that you don’t light an entire room when task lighting serves the purpose. Replace burned out lamps with lower wattage lamps or energy-saving lamps wherever possible. Don’t forget to turn off the lights when you are not in a room.

By switching over to effective and energy saving lighting fixtures such as energy saving fluorescent lamps, you can avoid paying hefty electricity bills.

Decorative lighting tips

Decorative lighting tipsProper lighting adds aesthetic sensibility to your home. If you wanna use light fixtures as one of the decorative items for your home, then here are a few ideas of how to use decorative lighting to enhance the artistic look of your home and create a welcoming atmosphere for your visitors.
Hallway:
Decorative sconce enhances the walls of your entrance hall. Small rectangular sconces with open tops or bottoms are ideal for casting a cozy atmosphere and add a subtle glow to your hallway. If you wanna increase the brightness, light up the foyer with decorative swing wall lamps which distribute bright light without glare.

Living room:
Highlight the fireplace or entertainment place in your living room using a pair of wrought iron indoor lamps. These boost the room’s central focal point. Enhance the mantle or bookshelf with one or two small table lamps.

Bedroom:
Make sure that you place a desk lamp or a floor lamp in your bedroom.

Guest room:
Your visitors will experience your hospitality if you add light their room with swing wall lamps and sconces.

How to illuminate your home?

HomeLighting in a home reflects the lifestyle of its residents. You need to create a lighting plan to compliment the treasured decorative elements of your home. Follow some home lighting tips and create a welcoming ambiance!
Light up naturally:
• Allow the natural light to flow into your room. Replace heavy curtains with window shutters or blinds for uninterrupted natural light.

• Place a mirror near or opposite the window to make the room seem larger. It also reflects light around the room making it brighter.

• Paint your walls and ceiling with lighter shades of blue, lilac etc.

Artificial lighting:
• General lighting: Ceiling-mounted fluorescent rings or tubes in plastic casings are most commonly seen. Florescent lights do a great job of lighting up large areas but the white light emitted also makes everything look bland and lifeless.

• Decorative Lighting: Their sole purpose is decoration. Decorative lights like colorful lanterns will look good even when unlit.

• Task Lighting: These lights help you accomplish tasks like studying, reading, and sewing, while minimizing eye strains. Desk lamps with adjustable arms are best for positioning lights exactly where you need them.

Light affects how you perceive spaces and the items within them. Good lighting creates a cozy and inviting space in your home.
