Step 1:
For a moderately clogged drain, you can use baking soda and vinegar. Put about ½ cup of baking soda into the drain, then slowly pour ½ cup of vinegar down the drain. The acidic nature of baking soda and the basic nature of vinegar will create a foaming action which will loosen the clog so that it can be rinsed away.
Step 2:
Plunging and pumping a drain is a steadfast way to clear drain blockages. Place the plunger directly over the drain and pump rapidly up and down several times. When you take away the plunger, the water should drain away. If it doesn’t, try again.
Step 3:
If your drain is still blocked, using a drain auger is a good option. Drain auger is a thin long piece of coiled metal with a hook at the end. Feed the auger down through the drain, turning it as you push it through the drainpipe. Either you will push the blockage or pull it up with the help of the hook.
Step 4:
Now, run hot water down the drain once you have opened the blockage. Hot water will wash away anything that may be sticking to the sides of the drainpipes.

 The most common complaint about a dishwasher is that does not clean dishes like it did before. Here is how to maintain your dishwasher and thus improve the performance of your dishwasher.
Check out the detergent which you use. Do you know that the most important part of a detergent is the amount of phosphorus in it? If not, you should know that Phosphorus softens water and helps prevent water spots on dishes. Ideally, the detergent you use should contain at least 8.7 % of phosphorus if it is hard water (8+ grains per gallon). The amount of phosphorus should be around 4% for 5 to 7 grains per gallon. If it is difficult for you calculate the percentage of phosphorus, carry out this simple test- if you are using a detergent with the wrong amount of phosphorus then you will see a white film on the glasses and the white stuff inside your dishwasher. If you notice this white film, switch over to some other detergent.
Now that if your detergent problem is solved, it is time to look on the way you treat your dishwasher. It is important the dishwasher keeps food particles from redepositing on clean dishes. The best way to do so is by filtering the water. A system that filters 100 percent of the water through a very fine mesh is very effective. Some units have a secondary filter using an even finer mesh, for even better effectiveness.
