Your floor adds on to the beauty of your home as much as the walls, the furniture and the ceiling. Those of you who have wooden floors with the ply that has grown old with time, can now set ablaze their radiance once again using what we call as plywood rugs!
Nevertheless a floor that is messy and is already in tatters won’t be an ideal match for such rugs. This is so because if it is too dry and is scraping out already, it may end up ruining your rug in no time. Your trying to do something with old plywood pays out only if the damages aren’t big and it will cost us less than making a new one.
Further if the staves of your plywood are not moving, it is a good sign of the fact that your ply is in perfect health and you don’t have to make new plywood but only take care of the old one a bit more carefully. If you have single staves, they might be stick up with special glue. Since these cannot be removed from the plywood, the best solution will lie in making holes in it and pouring the glue with a syringe or any other instrument which spreads the adhesive in a streamlined fashion. Once you have accomplished that, you can now cover the holes with lute to plywood to finally fix it.
On the other hand, if the ply is a bit too dry and also has an irregular surface, it can still be covered with the composition of epoxide resin and fine-grained sand. This composition will help covering all the small holes or crevices between the staves and other areas. One thing to be kept in mind is that this composition should not be made in very large amounts because it congeals fast it should be smoothed just after it was putted on the plywood. Thus making it in little amounts is advisable if you intend to apply it at multiple places.
Once you fix the floor, you can now choose a rug complimenting the walls of your room or contrasting them subtly. You could also choose them according to the color of your drapes which indeed play an essential role in complimenting the floor’s luminance. Though we may be only talking carpets, sometimes these minor changes can bring about some massive changes to your entire ambience.

Ceramic floor tiles are very attractive flooring as well as score for their hard surface and durability. Ceramic floor tiles require low maintenance especially in terms of keeping the surface spick and span. However, you can’t completely negate the need for regular cleaning and maintenance of ceramic floor tiles because the grout between tiles absorbs all of the dirt, spills, and stains that slide off the tiles. When your grout is dirty or discolored, it doesn’t matter how clean your tiles are; your floor will have a dirty appearance. Here are few cleaning tips to keep your ceramic floor tiles really clean. Read on.
The cleaning supplies required for cleaning the ceramic floor tiles are:
• Dust Mop or Broom
• Clean Water on a Damp Mop
• Cup Rubbing Alcohol in 2 Gallons of Water
• General Household Cleaners (Lysol, etc) Diluted in Water
• Only for Stubborn Stains or Serious Sanitizing: Full Strength Household Cleaner OR a Weak Bleach Solution.
You should know that you have the right mop with you. Sponge mops won’t serve the purpose because they are too soft to wipe off the dirt. Go for wet swiffer and disposable cloth mops. But, even they won’t reach the grout. Put down this idea as well. So, what you should do is get a mop that has cloth strips or a cotton mop with coiled yarns.
As far as the cleaner is concerned, look for a stronger solution to use on the tiles if the grout is really very dirty. Lysol and cleaners with similar ingredients are best to use for thorough cleaning of the grout. Dilute the cleaner with hot or warm water. However, too strong solution may leave little crusty white messes clinging to the grout. So, clean the tiles using plain water after you finish cleaning it with the diluted solution.
Ceramic tiles are one of the best options for flooring. If you keep them clean and well maintained, you won’t have to think about investing on the flooring of your home for a long time!

Wooden floors add elegance, warmth and style to your home. No wonder why they are the most preferred type of wooden flooring! You really adore your wooden flooring that even scratch or dent occurring in your wooden flooring is distressing! Well, if you face such situations, don’t panic, fix the problem yourself. Here are some easy steps to remove the ugly scratches and dents from your beautiful wooden flooring.
If it is a minor scratch then that is not big issue as they can be easily buffed away using steel wool or finer sandpaper grits. While using the sand paper, restrict your sanding to the scratched area. Don’t hit it too hard! Feathering into the surrounding surface is enough to remove the minor scratch.
You may try this as well- Apply a small amount of wax with very fine steel wool to the small worn areas on the floor. Rub it gently until the color blends with the floor. Remember, the wax should be applied in the direction of the wood grain. When the color completely blends with the floor, wipe off the excess wax and then polish the area with a clean and dry cloth. Wax alone can work very well if your floor is light or medium colored.
Always remember that you should never wax your floor that has a polyurethane coating. This will negate the ability to re-coat the floor in the future and hence, damage the charm of your wooden flooring.
If deep scratches or dents are developed in the wooden flooring, you should use wood-repair wax sticks to remove the scratch. You can even raise the small dents by placing a few drops of water on them, allowing the wood to swell back to its original shape and then applying mild heat with an iron or heat gun.
If you want to remove the ugly dark spots off your wooden floor, use a solvent based wax with mineral spirits. Since this is a flammable solvent, you should be very careful while applying it. Have adequate ventilation, and be sure there is no spark or flame in the area. Apply white vinegar to spots and leave it there for three of four minutes; and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Repeat this procedure, if necessary.
Wooden floors may be your one time investment. Follow the tips, remove all the scratches off your wooden floor and ensure increased life of your floor!
